  • I'm really glad this conversation happened

Gabi: ‎”something banter-y” stated. Jonathan: Pithy comeback making fun of the previous comment. Gabi: Embarrassed grin and shoulder shrug, followed by self-deprecating humor masking real chagrin. Jonathan: Vague pop culture reference accompanied with link to animated .gif Gabi: Laughter out loud, followed by desire to share that sensation, followed by the physical typing of alphabet letters which somehow convey that state of being to Facebook companion. Jonathan: Searching google for a new and appropriate emoticon. Settling on a standard wink. Gabi: Sigh of relief at somehow emerging from attempt at witty repartee unscathed by enduring emotional breakdown. Gabi: Followed by immediate sense of self-doubt… Gabi: And questioning of entire former conversation… To delete or not delete from wall?!?!?! Jonathan: Unjustified need to have the last word in a thread that isn’t even an argument. Gabi: Passive aggressive recognition of above stated condition - accepting of gauntlet thrown. Jonathan: Sudden and unreasonable shift in conversational tone. Gabi: Recollection of former grievance against own person by said Facebook companion - conclusion that said Facebook companion is no longer worthy of actual friendship. Logical conclusion: de-friend-ation. Satisfaction that said former Facebook companion is now feeling proper guilt and shame. Eagerly awaiting renewed friendship request. Jonathan: APOLOGY WRITTEN IN ALL CAPS THAT SOUNDS INSINCERE. RECIPIENT WILL NEVER SEE THE APOLOGY IF THEY ACTED OUT ON THE DEFRIENDING THREAT. Gabi: After awkward IFLencounter, decision to re-friend so to appear benevolent and self-sacrificial. Gabi: On a whim, mention former conversation that led to this entire awkward situation, hoping to laugh it off and at same time hopefully have other person assume blame and ease own sense of fault Jonathan: Passively aggressively assumes blame in the hopes that the other party will share it. Left unsatisfied and resentful for being at fault. Gabi: Happiness at having restored friendship and own sense of self-worth - cosmos once again in balance. Gabi: ‎”something banter-y” stated. • Turkeys in Hot Pursuit

This is the first time I’ve been chased by wild turkeys on the way to work. Their pursuit concerned me at first, especially since my people had just finished massacring and eating their people, but early in the chase it became clear they were friendly, playful even.

Now I know where the term ‘Turkey Trot’ comes from.

  • Modern Medicine

    Jonathan Harris:

There is an ancient pact between tools and their users which says that tools should be used by their users, and not the other way around. Good tools should help their users accomplish a task by satisfying some pre-existing urge and then getting out of the way. Attention economies, at their most addictive, violate this pact. Like good medicine, good tools should appear briefly when you need them, and then disappear, leaving you free to get on with your life.

  • The Coffees :

There are so many potential vices in the world over which one must exert self control: Drinking, food, gambling, etc. These are all fine in moderation, but shouldn’t be over-indulged in lest they become deleterious to health and happiness.

But can’t coffee just be something we drink as much as we want, with no underlying guilt or fear of abuse? COFFEE IS SO DAMN GOOD. The way it flows through your belly and into your veins, making life more vibrant – more full. It is a peerless beverage.
